The Road Home Cheat Sheet

The Road Home Program was a joint effort by the State of Louisiana and the federal government to help victims of Hurricane Katrina rebuild and restore their homes. The federal government sent money to the State of Louisiana, who in turn provided relief to over 130,000 struggling Louisiana residents. The Road Home New Orleans Lakeshore Office closed its doors in 2018, but the consequences of the Road Home Program are far from over. Not everyone who received their allotted funding or should have received funding was made aware of the basics:

  • Loans and grants are not the same thing. Depending on the situation, loans can come with an understanding that they have to be paid back, but grants are typically viewed like gifts and not taxed as income.

  • An alarming number recipients of Road Home funds are now being sued for not proving that they truly needed the money and used it correctly.

  • The New Orleans Civil District Court is open 8:30-5:00 P.M. on weekdays, and you can contact them to find out if you are being sued.

  • The Road Home Official Website has a list of records up to the last few months, however, it can be difficult to get a response from the state about your situation.

If you are being sued, you can call us at (504) 571-9670 or click here to schedule a free consultation.
